RN, LPN, APRN Requirement:
24 contact hours every two-year renewal period.
Special Requirements for all RN, LPN, APRN:
One (1) contact hour is required for each calendar month of the licensure cycle, including:
- Two (2) hours of Prevention of Medical Errors
- Two (2) hours of Florida Laws & Rules
- Two (2) hours of Domestic Violence - every third renewal (every six years). This course is in addition to the required 24 hours of general CE for that renewal period.
- Two (2) hours of Impairment in the Workplace - every other renewal period.
- Two (2) hours of Human Trafficking must be completed every two-year renewal period.
- One (1) hour HIV/AIDS - a one-time requirement to be completed prior to the first renewal.
APRN Special Requirement:
For those advanced registered nurse practitioners certified under s. 464.012:
- At least three (3) hours of Safe and Effective Prescription of Controlled Substances each renewal period.
Please Note: A nurse who is certified by a health care specialty program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification is exempt from continuing education requirements. The CE exemption based on certification does not apply to the 2 hr Human Trafficking course requirement.
CNA Requirement:
24 contact hours every two-year renewal period. Training hours shall include, but are not limited to, the following subject areas:
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Infection Control
- Domestic Violence
- Medical Record Documentation and Legal Aspects Appropriate to Nursing Assistants
- Resident Rights
- Communication with cognitively impaired clients
- Medical Error Prevention and Safety
- CPR skills
